What Keeps You Calm?

The only thing I had heard about this neurologist was that he was brilliant. So,
that made me think that he might be able to tell me why I continued to have
difficulty with a frozen shoulder. My chiropractor had noticed a slight tremor in
my left hand and had reluctantly said I could possibly have Parkinson’s Disease.
Not in a million years did I think I would be given a diagnoses that day in the
neurologist’s office. When the doctor came in the room where I was, he asked
what kind of work I did. I told him that previously I had been a music teacher.
Then, he asked me to wiggle my fingers on both hands with arms stretched out
straight. Finally, he told me to walk down the hall, swinging my arms as I
walked. After telling me to sit down, he said,”Classic Parkinson’s! In 5 years
you will not be able to blink your eyes. In 8 years you will have difficulty
walking.” As he grabbed his prescription pad and sat down on his stool, he
asked me, “You seem very calm. Is it your music that makes you so calm?” The
answer I gave had never been verbalized by me before. I said, “My music keeps
me calm sometimes. But, what’s keeping me calm right now is the fact that I
know my Creator God loves me and has a plan for my life. I know He will take
care of me.” His large dark brown eyes stared at me for a few seconds. Then,
without saying a word, he turned back to the counter where he finished writing
the prescription. It was such an unusual sacred moment! In my 58 years of
living, I had never experienced anything like it. Later, I learned this doctor was
of the Muslim religion and was not open to Christianity. Was it the Holy Spirit
speaking through me?
In Luke 12:12 Jesus tells his disciples, “When you are before authorities, do not
worry about what you will say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what
you should say.” I believe that is what I experienced that day.
The Holy Sprit is in every believer. When we let Him, He will speak through us.
Wow!! What a privilege!!
