It was a beautiful Spring day in Bainbridge, GA. My sister, Diana went
outside to swing in the backyard, or so my mother told me. Diana began
to sing while swinging. The school age daughter of the family next door
began taunting her by saying, “You can’t sing! You sound awful! Stop
singing!” Diana ran in the house crying loudly as she said, “Momma, tell
her to stop yelling at me and being so mean!” As Momma wrapped her
arms around 5 yr. old Diana, she said, “You don’t worry about the girl next
door. Just get back in that swing and sing as loudly as you can. She’ll get
tired and stop yelling after awhile.” Diana went back to the swing and
began singing. After awhile the neighbor stopped yelling. That day my
mother taught Diana a valuable life lesson. That lesson was passed down
to me as well. We should all take it to heart!….
When negative words try to pull us down, we should keep on singing. We
must recognize those negative words are ultimately coming from Satan,
the enemy of our souls. He will always try to throw discouragement,
distraction or disturbing thoughts our way. James 4:7 says, “Submit
yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
So, how are you resisting the enemy? Try singing a song of praise to God.
It will strengthen you and give you a renewed spirit! Don’t let anyone or
anything steal your joy! Keep on singing!
“Look on me and answer, Lord my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will
sleep in death, and my enemy will say, ‘I have overcome him;’ and my
foes will rejoice when I fall. But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart
rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the Lord’s praise, for He has been
good to me.” Psalm 13:5-6
